German Military Rifle Reviews – Mauser 98

21 May

The German Military Mauser 98 (Gewehr 98) is a bolt-action rifle chambered in 7.92x57mm Mauser. The German Military Mauser 98 was the German military’s service rifle beginning in 1898. German soldiers carried and fought with it in the trenches of World War I. Afterward German law enforcement carried it, when necessary, as did hunters. It was an advanced model for its time with a sturdy and accurate barrel. It revolutionized bolt-actions hence “Mauser-type.” The bolt had a large non-rotating claw, so shooters could depend on it to do what it was designed to do: chamber, fire and eject casings. It has a detachable floor plate that holds five rounds. Originally it didn’t have any sights, but little by little, like most rifles, the design evolved. Iron sights were added and later it was redesigned for a scope creating a sniper model. And, finally it was replaced as the German service rifle around 1935 by a shorter version called the 98k.

Browning Rifle Reviews – A-Bolt Eclipse Hunter

16 May

The Browning A-Bolt Eclipse Hunter is a bolt-action hunting rifle chambered in .270 Win., .30-06 Springfield and 7mm Rem. Mag. The A-Bolt Eclipse Hunter is just one of many in the A-Bolt series, but what separates the A-Bolt Eclipse Hunter from other Hunter models is a laminated gray satin finish, a thumb hole grip in the stock and an integrated Monte Carlo cheek piece. It also offers the availability of Browning’s Ballistic Optimizing Shooting System barrels on select calibers. BOSS is a threaded barrel attachment that promises to completely tame barrel vibrations (harmonics). It’ll improve accuracy because when a round is fired the initial explosion sends violent vibrations throughout the gun and can throw off the projectiles trajectory.

Otherwise it has common features to all models including a free-floated barrel, where the stock won’t interfere with the steel barrel’s action. It uses Browning’s Top Tang Safety, which places the safety on the back of the pistol grip or where the action-hand’s thumb naturally falls. The feature also locks and unlocks the bolt. The bolt itself requires a short 60-degree lift instead of 90. And, it has an adjustable 4-pound trigger.

Browning recommends the Browning A-Bolt Eclipse Hunter for hunting deer and larger game.

Gun news and surveys

4 May

According to a survey from Teenage Research Unlimited, about 44% teenagers of the modern era are capable of getting a handgun for themselves if they would really like to, WBEZ gun news report. Not just professional, but even teenager and people of all ages are extremely familiar with guns. In addition, some of the respondents even said that they personally knew someone who had been shot, and 37% of respondent say they actively fear being shot themselves. On the other hand, a count of almost half of 600 kids surveyed believed that US will be a lot safer if handguns will be prohibited, compared to about 25% who said adults should be able to carry loaded guns in public.

In accordance to this, you can read different gun news that talk about restricting guns in public places. For example, Gov. Jerry brown of California has recently signed into a law that bans handgun owners from openly carrying their weapons in public. In contrast, there are also officials like Gingrich, a former house speaker newt, who want to give everybody a chance of owning and carrying a handgun for protection purposes.

Without doubt, guns can kill and injured any person the easiest way. But it is not right to conclude that guns are the cause of all deaths and injuries. Gun provides a good and bad side. Guns can be used for sports such as hunting, etc. and Guns are used to stop crime and violence, and to deter criminal activities, victimization and oppression. On the other hand, guns can cause murder, suicides, accidental deaths, injuries from suicide attempts, and accidental injuries. If there is 100,000 people in the United States, 7 of these people kill themselves with the use of guns, 6 are intentionally killed by others with guns, .5 are accidentally killed with guns, 15-22 are purposely injured by others with guns, and .5 are accidentally injured by someone with guns. These figures happen in an average year.

Bottom-line, when we talk of different gun’s issue, we can hear a mixed response from different people. There are those people who are in favor of carrying a gun and there are those who do not, not only because a gun can be an instrument of killing people but because many people who don’t even owned or used gun feel afraid because others do, even though about half of U.S. citizens have always had guns.

For me, carrying a gun is acceptable most especially for protection purposes. As long as the person who carries it knows exactly what, where and when the right place and time to use it, owning a gun would not be a problem. Remember guns don’t shoot people, people shoot people.

Gun News – ‘Stand Your Ground’ Law, what is your opinion?

4 May

Even a kid at a very young age knows what gun is and the harmful effect it may bring to a person’s life. Different countries and cities have different gun laws and weapons’ ownership restrictions. In Brazil, civilian over 25 are free to keep firearms indoor as long as they are registered. In countries like Australia, owning a gun is restricted not unless you have a “genuine reasons” for owning a gun, employment requirements, for example. According to recent gun news, the United States is one of the nations all over the world that has a highest rate of gun- related deaths compare to other nations, and some says that it is because the U.S. has some of the most liberal gun laws in the world compared to other country. This is the reason why you will hear mixed opinions from different people regarding the issue of owning and carrying gun most especially in public place.

Are you in favor of carrying guns in public places? Are you supporting the ‘Stand Your Ground’ Law? What is your opinion on the different gun laws that is being amended today?

On my own opinion, I hundred percent support the ‘Stand Your Ground’ Law, where carrying guns are allowed in public places for SELF- DEFENSE purposes. For me, guns could only be our best protection in certain situation. Remember that, criminals don’t follow rules or laws. So, we have to defend ourselves the way we know how. If there is a high rate of gun- related deaths in United States, I believe it’s not about the gun problem, but the culture itself. Remember that guns don’t shoot people, its people who shoot people using gun.

Let me give you some of the top gun news (quick read) that talks about the different gun laws issues in different cities and countries, and hopefully this may help you decide whether to support owning and carrying gun, or not.

• Florida- A report in Orange country says that people are using their tax refund in buying guns instead paying their bills. As people argue the Stand Your Grand law, many are worried about losing their rights to own a gun very soon, so, while they can, people are buying their gun now before their second amendment right might be taken away.

• Quebec- The gun- control supporter in the province of Quebec celebrated last week when Judge Marc- Andre Blanchard vetoed the Canadian federal government from completely removing the country’s long- gun registry. According to the judge “The beneficial effects of maintaining the registry in Quebec appear greater than the urgency of applying the new law which will do away with the long-gun registry and destroy the data,”

• Arizona- Last week, Governor Jan Brewer vetoed House Bill 2729, legislation that would have allowed concealed weapons in public buildings that lack adequate security measures.

HB 2729, sponsored by state Representative David Gowan (R-30), would have amended various sections of the Arizona Revised Statutes to remove the current prohibition on entering a public establishment or attending any public event while carrying a weapon on one’s person. Instead it would have provided for regulation of firearms and ammunition on public property only if specific criteria were met.
