Barret Rifle Reviews – REC7

3 Apr

The Barrett REC7 is a semi-automatic tactical rifle chambered in 5.56 NATO or 6.8mm Rem. SPC. Of all the Barrett rifles, the REC7 is the smallest.

The Barrett REC7 has a piston driven gas system that directs gas onto a piston, which drives the bolt back, whereas other gas operated systems direct gas into a tube on the bolt. That and a minimal number of operating parts makes the REC7 easy to clean and maintain.

It can fire the military-designed 6.8mm Rem. SPC, which is a cross between the 7.62 NATO and 5.56 NATO. It features a free-floated barrel, so the stock won’t interfere with the barrel’s action. The REC7’s single-stage match trigger sets off the action with a very short pull. It has standard iron sights, but it also has a Picatinny rail so shooters can personalize the rifle with scopes, sights, lights, or lasers.

Barrett recommends the REC7 for hunting small game and hoofed animals, competitive shooting, military or law enforcement.

Barret Rifle Reviews – MRAD

3 Apr

The Barrett MRAD is a bolt-action rifle chambered in .338 Lapua Magnum. Barrett is known for long-range precision rifles and the MRAD was the company’s new gun introduced in 2011, but was also spotlighted during the 2012 SHOT Show.

The MRAD is multi-caliber, modular rifle–an idea that is growing in popularity. Having a modular design means it is easy to disassemble and maintain. The barrel can be changed with limited tools and ability. To replace it, all the user has to do is unscrew two bolts.

The Barrett MRAD has an aluminum receiver, a 24.5-inch fluted barrel, which puts the overall length to 46.9 inches, and weighs 14.8 pounds. Features include a ten-round magazine, a manually-operated reversible thumb lever, and an ambidextrous magazine release.

The rifle is naturally long, so Barrett designed the stock so that it can fold, which makes for easy storage and transportation. When collapsed, the stock latches around the bolt handle, so the rifle doesn’t change in width. The stock has other features as well. The polymer cheek rest is adjustable for personal preference. And the length of pull has five different settings.

Running along the barrel are four Picatinny rails for easy mounting of optics and accessories. The rails on the sides and on the bottom are mere inches long, but the rail along the top is 21.75-inches long.

Barret Rifle Reviews – M107A1

3 Apr

The Barrett M107A1 is a semi-automatic rifle chambered in .50 BMG. Barrett touts that the M107A1 is “a lighter yet stronger” version of the original 82A1/M107. Barrett was able to make the rifle lighter by using titanium, aluminum and steel materials to make up the rifle. Also, the muzzle brake is made of titanium as well. But the biggest incentive to the M107A1 isn’t the weight reduction, it’s the fact that it can be suppressed.

The bolt and bolt carrier were specifically designed to work with a suppressor and the suppressor can be easily attached. It fits right over the muzzle brake.

The Barrett M107A1 has an lightweight aluminum upper receiver, hardened steel bolt, and a titanium and polymer bi-pod. Like the 82A1, a rifle praised for its lightweight, low recoil, dependability and accuracy, the M107A1 has a straight-forward design.

The M107A1 has a 29-inch fluted barrel, which puts the overall length of 57 inches, and it weighs 30.9 pounds. However, a shorter barreled version is also available.

Features include flip-up iron sights, a 10-round box magazine, and a Picatinny rail that runs along the top. The rail allows for easy mounting of optics or accessories.

Barret Rifle Reviews – 99

3 Apr

The Barrett 99 is a bolt-action single-shot rifle chambered in .416 Barret or .50 BMG. Unlike other Barrett models, the 99 is a single-shot rifle meaning the shooter has to feed the rifle one round at a time.

The Barrett 99 is praised for its lightweight, low recoil, dependability and accuracy. It features an 18″ rail on the upper receiver, so scopes, sights, lights or lasers can be easily mounted. It has a simple design and can be easily disassembled and reassembled. Its bolt has 15 locking lugs, which lock into the machined barrel extension and keeps the bolt secured in place so the firing pin will strike the cartridge on mark. Model 99 is available with a 32″ heavy barrel or a 29″ fluted barrel. And, it comes with a detachable bipod.

Barrett recommends the 99 for precision shooting.

Barret Rifle Reviews – 98B

3 Apr

The Barrett 98B is a bolt-action long-range tactical rifle chambered in .338 Lapua Mag. Rather than modifying a hunting rifle, Barrett modified its original tactical design to create 98B. The NRA’s “American Rifleman” named it Rifle of the Year in 2010 for its lightweight, low recoil, dependability and accuracy. Its straightforward design, from muzzle to shoulder, helps direct and reduce recoil.

The 98B features an adjustable butt stock and cheek pad for personalized comfort. Also, an adjustable trigger for preferable trigger control. A rear monopod on the stock and a front bi-pod for stability. Shooters can further personalize the rifle by attaching sights, lights and grips to its rail system. The 98B has a simple design making it easier for shooters to disassemble and clean.

Barrett recommends the Barrett 98B for law enforcement, military and long-range competitive shooting, but also for long-range hunting.

Barret Rifle Reviews – 95

3 Apr

The Barrett 95 is a bolt-action tactical rifle chambered in .50 BMG. Unlike other Barrett models, the M95 uses a bullpup configuration, where the magazine feeds behind the trigger. Barrett designed the rifle that way so it could use a shorter barrel, but keep the long-range accuracy Barrett is known for.

It uses a match grade fluted barrel. It has a simple design and can be easily assembled and disassembled. It has an 18″ rail on the upper receiver, so scopes, sights, lights or lasers can be easily mounted. Currently, the M95 is used by foreign militaries.

Barrett recommends the Barrett 95 for military, law enforcement, and long-range precision shooting.

Barret Rifle Reviews – 82A1 (M107)

3 Apr

The Barrett 82A1 (aka M107) is a semi-automatic long-range tactical rifle chambered in .50 BMG and .416 Barrett. Although the original design was to shoot .50 BMG, it is now compatible with .416 Barrett, which fires at a higher velocity and has comparable power.

The 82A1 is available with a non-detachable magazine (only compatible with .416 Barrett). The rifle is praised for its lightweight, low recoil, dependability and accuracy. It has an 18″ rail on the upper receiver to mount accessories like scopes, sights, lights, lasers, etc. The 82A1 has a simple design, but it can be more difficult to assemble and disassemble than other Barrett models.

The 82A1 is used by the US and allied military forces. Barrett recommends Barrett 82A1 (aka M107) for law enforcement, military and long-range competitive shooting, but also for long-range hunting. However, it’ll probably obliterate whatever it is used to hunt.
